BrightBalance Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 25, 2026

BrightBalance ("we", "us", or "our") is a personal finance app that helps you track spending and manage budgets by connecting to your bank accounts. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address to create and identify your account.

Financial data. With your explicit consent, we connect to your bank accounts via Plaid. Through this connection we receive account balances, transaction history, and account metadata (institution name, account type). We do not receive or store your banking credentials — those are handled entirely by Plaid.

Camera. The app requests camera access to support Plaid's identity verification and check-scanning features during bank account linking. Camera access is never used for any other purpose.

Push notifications. We send optional push notifications (e.g. spending alerts). You can disable these at any time in your device settings.

Usage data. We do not use analytics or advertising SDKs. We collect minimal crash and error data solely to fix bugs.

2. How We Use Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your financial data for advertising.

3. Data Sharing

Plaid. Bank account linking is powered by Plaid Inc. Your use of Plaid is subject to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy.

Google. Sign-in is handled by Google OAuth. Your use is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

We do not share your data with any other third parties except as required by law.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings → Delete Account). Upon deletion, all your personal data and financial data is permanently removed from our systems. You can also revoke Plaid's access to your bank accounts at any time through the app.

5. Security

All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). We do not store your bank credentials. Financial data is stored in a secured database with access controls.

6. Children's Privacy

BrightBalance is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
